Quality of life of for seniors in residential social service facilities during the covid - 19 pandemic period
The impact of social media on social participation and quality of life of the elderly in the Czech Republic
Přiklopilová, Jana ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Soňa (referee)
The Czech population is ageing, and the number of seniors continues to grow year on year. At the same time, the number of working seniors, who currently make up one tenth of the Czech workforce, is increasing. There is also a decline in the number of extended family structures, which more often provide the necessary social network and support, compared to narrower nuclear family types. That is not the only reason why there is an increase in the number of lonely seniors, who are isolated from the world and social relations and who stop participating in social activities. It is estimated that one in three seniors across the globe struggles with loneliness. With the advent of modern information technology, the question arises whether virtual contact can help to address the issue of loneliness and improve the social participation of seniors. The aim of this thesis was to provide a deeper insight into the situation in the Czech Republic, outlining potential benefits and risks as well as possible barriers for this demographic group. This research found that Czech seniors use social media not only to maintain relationships with their family and friends, but also to broaden their horizons in the field of hobbies and take an active interest in current and political events. Social media can thus be a tool...
#liminalcore
Surovková, Alexandra ; Zálešák, Jan (referee) ; Mikyta, Svätopluk (advisor)
The Bachelor's thesis consists of a series of paintings on canvas, paper, and objects printed using a 3D printer. Paintings invite the viewer to reflect on the influence of technology on our perception of ourselves, to consider ways in which we can maintain a sense of connection and authenticity in the digital age. Through my work, I attempt to offer an unconventional perspective on the theme of virtual loneliness. Aware of the growing popularity of internet phenomena such as liminal spaces and the uncanny valley, I utilize their aesthetic attributes as expressive means to evoke feelings of solitude and discomfort.
Level of perceived stress and the need to use social media among students on a study abroad placement
Šafář, Vojtěch ; Lukavská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Taušová, Jitka (referee)
This study aims to investigate whether studying abroad alters levels of perceived stress, loneliness, and the need to use social networks. Standardized questionnaires and a question on average daily screentime on social media were used to determine these variables for a group of students on a study abroad program and a group of students who were studying at their home university for a given semester. T-tests showed a statistically significant difference between these groups for the length of social media screentime and the loneliness variables, while no difference was shown for the perceived stress variable. Subsequently, the linear relationships between these variables were also tested, and except for the relationship between loneliness level and daily screentime on social media, all were proven to be statistically significant by correlation tests.
Social isolation of in-patients problems
GRIMM, Viktor
Abstract The presented diploma thesis explores the social isolation hospital and sanitary facility clients suffer from, raising a live issue to tackle. Research aims and questions: I framed three aims, including defining the needs of socially isolated hospital patients, assessing the impacts of social isolation on the patients, and analysing how to mitigate the feeling of loneliness. The goals involve three research questions: 'What are the needs of socially isolated hospital patients?' 'What are the impacts of social isolation on hospital patients?' and 'How can we mitigate social isolation of hospital patients?'. Research methods and sample: The empirical part involves a qualitative methodology - a semi-structured interview. The research sample comprises probands classified into three groups. They include nurses attending socially isolated patients, patients and their relatives. I addressed 17 probands within one hospital and sanitary facility in South Bohemian Region. The data analysis involved open coding - a paper-pencil survey, splitting the data into three main categories, each containing ten subgroups. Findings: The survey revealed that hospital or sanitary facility patients often feel lonely, unveiling critical psychosocial needs for alleviating these feelings. Nurses and relatives are highly instrumental in showing compassion, while family hospital visits are imperative to prevent social isolation. The findings also indicate that loneliness severely undermines patients' mental health. Contribution to practice: The study may contribute to educating students of health and social care and licensed practical nurses and informing the general public. As the thesis's outcome, I will hold a workshop with nurses to identify and deal with socially isolated patients.

TOMANOVÁ, Jiřina
The topic of this bachelor´s thesis is the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of the elderly during lockdown, namely in regard to loneliness and disconnection with their families. The thesis documents how their family relations have changed, in what manner the goverment regulations influenced their lives and from what sources the seniors got information about the situation at the time. It also deals with how the contacts with their families have changed, who helped the seniors the most during the pandemic, what they needed help with the most and what caused them the biggest concerns. The thesis also looks at whether any feelings of sadness and loneliness befell them, and if so, what helped them overcome these conditions. The research was focused on seniors using a home care service or seniors living in a home care service house in Nová Bystřice. One of the goals of this thesis was to find out how the home care service helped to overcome loneliness and sadness and if there was anything that it hadn´t been able to provide that the clients would have appreciated receiving. The thesis evaluates seniors needs, their biggest worries and what is hard for them to cope with. It also evaluates how the home care service can contribute to solving sudden situations, which the COVID-19 pandemic surely was. For realisation of the research part, a qualitative type of research was used through the method of questioning and half-structured interview technique. The interviews were recorded then rewritten and coded with open coding. The target group were seniors using the home care service in Nová Bystřice. The knowledge gathered is then used to assess which services are crucial and how is it possible to improve the services offered.
